PlantBasedResearch Team is staffed by volunteers who are serving public needs for education and information. Our goal is to provide tools and information to give people better access to research information on plant-based nutrition, to connect the public and the academic communities, and to inspire greater interest in studying plant-based nutrition.

After being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and the five-year wellness and recovery journey that followed, Shannon decided to share her enthusiasm for living a life full of health and vitality along with her story of self-healing with others. Shannon received her training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City and is the co-author of the cookbook series “Monkeys in the Kitchen” with her two boys.

Volunteer - Martin Rice

Martin grew up in SE England in a small seaside town called Brightlingsea where he developed a lifelong passion for sailing, and has lived in various countries until settling in Perth, Australia in 1998. He works in the oil and gas industry as an engineer and lives with his wife Jenny and sons Duncan and Robert. They love Perth for its beautiful weather and pristine natural environment and of course the sailing and windsurfing! Martin became passionately interested in plant-based nutrition since reading the China Study and taking the eCornell Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition. He is happy to contribute to this website where relevant research can be gathered in one place.

Volunteer - Julie McKay

Julie has her Master Degree in Exercise Physiology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Rhode Island.  She is currently a candidate in the Nutritional Education Trainer program at the Nutritional Education Institute under the direction of Dr. Joel Fuhrman.  In August of 2014 she will be a certified educator in plant based nutrition and the nutritarian way of life.  Successful reversal of her daughters digestive disorders through the NEI program, has made Julie an advocate of a whole food, plant based lifestyle. Julie is excited about changing careers, and finally pursuing her passion of health and nutrition.
